RESULTS

PINEHURST, N.C. – The LIU Post women's golf team opened its spring portion of its 2018-19 season at the Browngolf Intercollegiate Tournament in historic Pinehurst, N.C. at the Country Club of Whispering Pines on Friday, March 15 and Saturday, March 16.

The Pioneers were unable to post a team score on day two of the event due to two injury withdrawals during the course of play. The Green and Gold were led individually by senior Abby Snidemiller in her homecoming event with a T-16 finish after posting a two-day total of 174 (+30). Junior Claire Pohalski and senior Natalia Schaefer finished a few strokes behind at 188 and 189, respectively, while sophomore Clare Alaimo added a two-day total of 214 as an individual competitor.

Junior Shannon Fox added the second-lowest round of the day on day one with a round of 91 but was unable to finish the second round due to injury. Senior Marissa Bennett suffered a similar fate after carding a round of 98 on Friday before being forced to withdraw on Saturday.

Snidemiller had an excellent start to her event, finishing even par through her first four holes after birdieing the par-4 fourth hole. Five bogeys over her next five holes led to a front-nine score of 41 and the senior added one more par on her back nine for an opening-round 89. On Saturday, Snidemiller closed out her front nine with three-consecutive pars and added four more on her back nine to post a score of 85, the second-best round by a Pioneer this season.

Pohalski had a very consistent tournament, finishing with a combined five pars on the front nine of the Pines Course before posting back-nine scores of 46 on both days, signing for rounds of 93 and 95. Schaefer finished just one stroke behind after using a huge bounce back closing nine on Friday to salvage a round of 96. After struggling to a 54 with just one par on her opening nine holes, Schaefer carded five pars on her back nine, including a stretch of four-consecutive from holes 14-17, to post a nine-hole score of 42. Five pars on Saturday helped her secure a round of 93 for the 36th-place finish.

The Pioneers continue their spring campaign on Sunday, April 7 at the Kutztown University Spring Invitational at Moselem Springs Golf Club in Fleetwood, Pa.
