BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The LIU Post baseball team moved to 5-0 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play Friday afternoon as the Pioneer offense erupted in a 25-5 victory over Saint Thomas Aquinas College at the LIU Post Baseball Field.
 
With a total of 101 runs in their past five games, the Pioneer offense continued to fire on all cylinders as it amassed a season-high 24 hits, 17 RBI, nine doubles, a home run and eight walks. LIU Post's 25 runs was its second-highest run total of the season, with the highest coming in the Pioneers' 28-2 triumph over Lincoln University on Saturday, March 23.
 
Freshman Giovanni Ciaccio and redshirt-junior Andy Camilo led the way after they both turned in 4-for-5 performances at the plate. Ciaccio added three RBI, three runs, two doubles and a triple while Camilo also had three runs and two RBI. Senior Michael Manzione, senior Anthony Vaglica, senior Reynaldo Guillen and sophomore Christopher Wasson each had three hits. Junior Zach Fritz had two hits, including a home run, along with four RBI and three runs.
 
Senior James Varela earned the win for the Pioneers after striking out nine in seven innings. Senior Brian Kavanagh and junior Kurt Rissland also saw action on the mound.
 
The Pioneers took a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first; a double down the left field line from senior Dave Brehm scored Wasson and Ciaccio then the Pioneers would add three more runs throughout the inning.
 
The Spartans scored their first two runs in the top of the third but hopes of a comeback were halted after Guillen ripped a single up the middle to score Vaglica then Ciaccio tripled to left field, scoring Guillen and Camilo in the bottom of the third as LIU Post took an 8-2 lead.
 
While Saint Thomas Aquinas made it an 8-4 game in the top of the fourth, Fritz launched a three-RBI home run to left field to give the Pioneers an 11-4 lead. LIU Post then expanded its lead to 17-4.
 
Saint Thomas Aquinas continued to have no answer for the Pioneer bats as LIU Post totaled seven runs in the bottom of the eight; a Wasson single to right field that scored Guillen that saw the Pioneers triumph with a final score of 25-5.
