MANCHESTER, N.H. - The LIU Post softball team continued its strong play on Sunday, April 14 when it took one of two games from No. 13 Southern New Hampshire University in non-conference play.
Junior
Abbey Fortin, senior
Julia Seader, and sophomore
Hanna Finkelstein garnered two hits apiece, while sophomore
Patricia Dun homered for the second-straight day. Junior
Katie Humhej allowed just two runs during a complete-game victory.
Game One: LIU Post 4, SNHU 2
It was a quick start against the nationally-ranked Penmen, as junior
Allie Laird led off the game with a single and Seader put two runners in scoring position with a double to right-center field. Fortin kept things rolling with a single for the third-consecutive hit to begin the game, driving in Laird to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead.
Finkelstein drove in another run on an RBI-groundout and junior
Megan Sneeden singled home Fortin to give LIU Post a 3-0 advantage. The lead was more than enough for Humhej who kept the Penmen off-balance all day.
It was 62 games between Dun's last two home runs but the sophomore connected for the second-consecutive game late to give the Pioneers a two-run advantage and Humhej closed the door the rest of the way to help the Green and Gold hand the Penmen just their sixth loss of the season.
Game Two: LIU Post 0, SNHU 5
The LIU Post bats were quieted in game two as SNHU allowed just three hits on the day. The Penmen scored all five runs during the sixth inning, including three unearned tallies to put LIU Post out of reach.
The Pioneers were unable to put any runners in scoring position during the game and suffered its eighth setback of the season with the 5-0 decision.
LIU Post returns to action on Tuesday, April 16 when it visits the University of Bridgeport at 2:30 p.m.
