As the first-ever coach of the LIU Post women's golf program, Tom Kane was tasked with building a steady platform upon which the team could trek further upwards towards a level of success. Entering his second season, Kane has done just that, mentoring his golfers to great heights in individual and team tournaments.

The 2014-15 season saw the LIU Post women's golf program earn a program-best fifth-place team finish in its inaugural invitational. Additional success came in the form of individual efforts, specifically from junior Hannah Pohalski, who finished second and third in back-to-back spring tournaments. Pohalski carded an 83 at the Kutztown Spring Invitational, which tied a performance by Nicole Przonek earlier in the year for the lowest score in the young history of the program.

Kane was tabbed by Director of Athletics and Recreation Bryan Collins to lead the Pioneers on the links on Jan. 21, 2014.

Kane came over from Smithtown West High School, where he guided its girls' varsity golf team from 2006-14. He also coached the boys' squad from 1974-2003. Between those two appointments, Kane led the Bulls to six Suffolk County titles and a Long Island Championship.

Furthermore, he mentored two Suffolk County individual champions and one Newsday Long Island Player of the Year. For his efforts, Kane was inducted into the Smithtown High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003.

Kane, who resides in Stony Brook, N.Y., graduated with a bachelor's degree in Political Science from Duke University in 1970. He later got a master's in Liberal Studies from Stony Brook University in 1976.
