Baseball Splits With Concordia, 3-1, 2-1

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (April 12, 2008) - The baseball team split an East Coast Conference doubleheader with Concordia College on Saturday afternoon, winning the first game 3-1 but dropping the second game by a 2-1 count.
The Pioneers now stand at 15-17 overall and 7-6 in East Coast Conference play, while the Clippers move to 7-21 overall and 3-11 in conference action.
C.W. Post scored two runs in the first inning of game one, giving starter
Pete Budkevics all the run support he would need in the game, as he went eight innings allowing one run on five hits and three walks, striking out five.
#Bryan Bonin# and
Kyle Walker's back-to-back singles coupled with two errors scored Bonin for the games first run, and
Mike Callaghan singled home Walker for the second run of the inning.
The Clippers got a run back in the bottom of the second when a Pioneer error allowed a run to score.
Pete Budkevics shut the Clippers down the rest of the way, and
Anthony Rinaldi pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the save. Bonin went 2-for-4 in the game to lead the offense.
The nightcap saw the Pioneers outhit the Clippers nine hits to four, but fall victim to a home run in the seventh by T.J. Walsh that clinched the win for Concordia.
The Pioneers scored a run in the fourth on an RBI single by
Bruce Testa, but Concordia answered right back on a Walsh single to right field.
Bo Budkevics went 4.1 innings giving up one run on three hits, while
Brian Saldana took the loss, giving up one run on one hit in 1.2 innings of work. Callaghan and
Mike Sylvester each had two hits in the loss.
The Pioneers play the rubber game against Concordia on Sunday, April 13, for a 1 p.m. game.
