Women's Lacrosse Announces 2009 Recruits
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (April 17, 2008) - C.W. Post head women's lacrosse coach Meghan McNamara announced the signings of four players to national letters of intent for the fall of 2008. Lauren Spagnoletta (West Islip, N.Y.), Ashley Janelli (Glen Head, N.Y.), Ashley Olen (East Islip, N.Y.) and Nicole Sileo (Mineola, N.Y.) will begin playing for the Pioneers for the spring 2009 season.
Spagnoletta, a midfielder, attends West Islip High School, where she has been a varsity lacrosse player for three seasons, leading the Lions to the playoffs the last two years. In addition to lacrosse, Spagnoletta also participates in gymnastics and runs winter track.
McNamara on Spagnoletta: “Lauren is very unselfish player, and a very quick athlete. She's a real hustler and a very hard worker.”
Janelli is a midfielder/defender and has played three seasons of lacrosse for North Shore High School, garnering all-county honorable mention notice while helping her team to Nassau County Class C Runner-up finishes in 2005 and 2006. She also competes in field hockey and basketball for the Vikings, where she has achieved Exceptional Senior and Scholar-Athlete awards.
McNamara on Janelli: “Ashley is a great role player, very calm, cool, and collected. She is a great kid, and gives 100 percent all the time.”
Olen is an attacker who's helped her East Islip High School team to the playoffs each of the past for years. She scored 44 goals along with 30 assists last season and helped the Redmen to a 12-3 finish, garnering all-county notice along the way. She also played three seasons of soccer, helping the team to a county championship in 2006. Olen has also played on the the New York State Empire team.
McNamara on Olen: “Ashley is a fantastic player, very competitive and very coachable. She loves to plays and works hard and improves every day.”
Sileo has been an important part of Wantagh High School's midfield unit for the past three seasons, helping the Warriors to two Nassau County final appearances while earning all-conference honors during her junior season. A three-sport athlete, she's also played four seasons of varsity basketball, earning all-division honors while helping her team to two county championships. Sileo also played two seasons of varsity soccer.
McNamara on Sileo: “Nicole is very feisty and very aggressive. She knows the game and gives it her all every day.”
“I'm very excited about the class that I've signed for next season,” said McNamara. “They are exceptional athletes with great personalities, and they are ready to work. They're just a great group of girls who will be able to mesh well and fit right into the program.”
