BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (April 2, 2008)
- A three-run Queens fifth inning gave the visiting Knights an edge over the Pioneers, who fell 4-2 to the ECC rivals in baseball action on Wednesday afternoon. 

The loss drops the Pioneers to 10-15 overall, and 3-5 in the ECC, while the Knights improve to 5-11 overall and 4-4 in conference play. 

The Pioneers scored first, when a Steve Algarroba RBI single plated Bruce Testa in the second inning. 

The Knights got a run back, tying the game at one apiece, in the fourth inning, after Michael Sporton scored on an infield error. 

Queens broke the game open for a three-run lead in the fifth. Thomas Pento's RBI single to right scored two runs, and an error by the rightfielder allowed him to advance to Third. Pento scored on a Luis Rojas single to center field to put the Knights up 4-1. 

The Pioneers were able to pull within two when Brian Anderson scored on a fielder's choice to the shortstop by Brian Chenicek, but Arik Abrams and Mike Honeyman pitched scoreless eighth and ninth innings respectively, to close the door on the Pioneers. 

Brian Saldana took the loss for C.W. Post, tossing 7 innings and giving up twelve hits and three earned runs. He stuck out six. Dan Walsh was solid in relief for the Pioneers, tossing 1.1 innings of three-hit ball and not allowing a run. Anthony Rinaldi struck out the only two batters he faced in the top of the ninth to keep the game close for the Pioneers. 

Offensively for C.W. Post, Mike Callaghan went 3-for-5, and Bryan Bonin went 2-for-3. 

Head coach Pete Timmes and the Pioneers look to return to their winning ways on Friday, April 4, as the travel to New Hampshire to take on Franklin Pierce for a 4 p.m. game.
