Abrams, Cohen and Williams to Join Women's Lacrosse Staff
Women's lacrosse head coach
Meghan McNamara has announced three new additions to her coaching staff for the upcoming 2009 season.
Elaine Williams and
Kristy Abrams, each members of the undefeated 2007 NCAA Division II National Championship team, will join McNamara on the sidelines as assistant coaches, along with University of Maryland graduate Lauren Cohen.
“I am so excited for Kristy, Lauren, and Elaine to be a part of the Post tradition,” said McNamara. “They are phenomenal people and will have a tremendous impact on our program.”
Abrams, a former defenseman who graduated in 2007, caused nine turnovers and picked up 13 ground balls in her senior season. Her performance on the field was rewarded that season with an All-ECC Second Team selection. She helped lead the Pioneers to a national title in 2007, a season in which the team finished with an unblemished 17-0 record. Abrams will be the defensive specialist for the Pioneers, putting her All-ECC skills to work.
Former Terrapins attackman, Lauren Cohen, joins the ranks after a superior four year run at the University of Maryland, graduating in 2008. Cohen helped lead her team to the NCAA Division I National Championship all four years of her career, playing in a combined 74 games, making 60 appearances on the starting line-up. She finished her senior year ranking second on her team with 49 goals, and third on the team with a total of 59 points. Cohen was also honored as an IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-American in her last year. She will responsible for the Pioneers' offense, as well as assisting Coach McNamara with recruiting.
Williams finished her four-year career with the Pioneers this past spring, and compiled a resume which includes 130 goals, 44 assists, and 122 ground balls. As a Speech-Language Pathology major, she garnered success off the field as well. She was awarded the Spring 2008 Scholar Athlete of the Year Award, earning a 3.604 GPA. She concluded her career as the program's co-leader in all-time games played at 71 games. Williams will use her midfield expertise to help the Pioneers with their transition game.
