No. 3 Men's Basketball Overrides Concordia, 78-69

The C.W. Post men's basketball team continued its perfect season and won its tenth straight contest with a 78-69 win over East Coast Conference rival Concordia College Monday evening at the Pratt Recreation Center.
 
C.W. Post improves to 10-0 overall and 4-0 in the ECC while Concordia slips to 3-11 overall and 1-3 conference play.
 
The Pioneers finished the game shooting .448 (26 of 58) from field goal range and was 22-for-33 at the charity stripe. Concordia registered a .444 shooting percentage (24 of 54) and cleaned up on the glass with a 40-27 advantage.
 
The Pioneers, trailing 32-30 at the half, played a rejuvenated second half with the help of senior guard Nick Carter (Huntington Station, N.Y.) who scored 18 points in the half.
 
Concordia's offense was strong in the first half as senior forward Alfonso DuHart put up 15 points in the half on 6 of 8 shooting from the field, including three beyond the arc. 
 
C.W. Post, meanwhile, was 12-for-32 from the field that included a 1-for-13 mark from outside the line in the first half.
 
The teams played a close game with four tie ups through the first ten minutes of play in the second half. 
 
The Pioneers took the lead for good at 10:20 with a three-point basket from Carter that gave them a 49-48 edge. From there, the home team battled to protect its lead and got help from two straight three-pointers from Carter at 5:10 and 2:21. 
 
The Pioneers scored their next eight points of the contest and closed out the ballgame with a dunk from junior guard Roberto Macklin (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) with two seconds remaining.
 
Carter paced the Pioneers with 26 points while senior guard Kenny Burkes (Suitland, Md.) chipped in 13 points with seven assists. Senior guard Jonathan Schmidt (Centereach, N.Y registered 12 points and recorded a game-high assists while junior forward Lyndon Daniel (St. George's, Grenada) added 15 points and blocked two shots.
 
Alphonso finished the game with 20 points for the Clippers while teammate William Eason registered the game's only double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
 
C.W. Post will continue conference play when it travels to the University of Bridgeport on Wednesday, Jan. 14 for a 7 p.m. tip off.
