BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Dec. 19, 2009) -
Despite five players scoring in double figures, and a career-high 20 points from freshman Jonathan Kohler (Bordentown, N.J.), the C.W. Post men's basketball team lost a 102-81 contest to the top-ranked team in the nation, the Central Missouri Mules, on Saturday evening in the High Desert Classic in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Kohler's 20 points came on 7-of-10 shooting, including 5-for-5 from the charity stripe. The freshman also grabbed eight rebounds. Joining Kohler in double figures were Aaron Hall (Syracuse, N.Y.) with 17 points, Nemanja Jokic (Bronx, N.Y.) with 15 points, and Roberto Macklin (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) with 11 points. James Tchana (Douala, Cameroon) chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds.
The Mules used a 19-6 run in the first half to take a 16 points lead, 28-12, at 8:08. The Pioneers trailed by as many as 18 points, but pulled to within 10 at the half on a trey by Macklin with 21 seconds left in the half.
However, Central Missouri came out firing in the second half and despite an 18 point effort from Kohler in the second half, C.W. Post was unable to make much of a dent in the 20+ points lead of the Mules.
Central Missouri was led by Sanijay Watts with a game-high 33 points on 10-of-17 shooting and 13-of-14 from the charity stripe, along with 10 rebounds to complete the double-double. Alex Moosmann added 23 points and Ryan Harris scored 13 points. The Mules shot 49% from the field (34-69), 45% from downtown (10-22) and 92% from the charity stripe (24-26).
C.W. Post shot 46% from the field (29-63), 27% (5-18) from three-point range, and 72% from the free-throw line (18-25).
The Pioneers are off until after Christmas, when they host the C.W. Post Holiday Invitational, playing St. Rose, Evangel University and Daemen College.
