WILMINGTON, Del. (Feb. 26, 2009) -
The C.W. Post baseball team got off to a rough start to its 2009 season, as the Pioneers dropped both ends of their season opening doubleheader to Wilmington University, losing the first game 5-0 and dropping the second by a 9-5 final score. 

C.W. Post slips to 0-2 on the season, while the Wildcats improve to 3-0 overall.
In the first game, the teams played through two scoreless innings before Wilmington got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third, as Evan Zechman scored on an infield error to take a 1-0 lead.
The Wildcats added four more scores in the bottom of the fourth inning, as the big blow came off the bat of Zechman in the form of a two-run double.
The Pioneers struggled offensively against the Wilmington pitching staff, as sophomore DH Kyle Dean (Pomperaug, Conn.) and junior shortstop Bryan Bonin (Commack, N.Y.) had the only two hits of the game for C.W. Post.
Joe Harris was credited with the win with five innings of scoreless one-hit ball.  Junior Mark Czerniawski (Glen Cove, N.Y.) took the loss, giving up five runs on five hits, striking out one and walking two. Freshman Michael Behar (Staten Island, N.Y.) pitched two scoreless inning in relief.
In the night cap, the Pioneers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first as Mike Callaghan (East Meadow, N.Y.) worked a bases loaded walk that scored Bonin from third. Bruce Testa (Glen Cove, N.Y.) followed with an RBI single to plate Kyle Walker (Wantagh, N.Y.)
Wilmington got a run back in the bottom of the first as JT Gregory scored on an RBI groundout.
The Pioneers doubled their lead in the second inning as three consecutive walks loaded the bases for Walker, who singled to drive in a run. Brian Anderson (Nesconset, N.Y.) hit into a fielder's choice to score another run and give the Pioneers a 4-1 advantage. 
The Wildcats answered back in the bottom of the inning with a four-run outburst, three of those runs coming off the bat of MattUmba's three-run double.
Three more run in the third and another in fourth gave the Wildcats a 9-4 lead.
The Pioneers scored a run in the sixth as Edward Bartley (Bethpage, N.Y.) knocked home Testa with a  pinch-hit single.
Freshman Glen Hudson (West Sayville, N.Y.) took the loss, giving up eight runs on four hits, striking out four and walking three. 
C.W. Post will face UMass-Lowell on Saturday in a 4 p.m. doubleheader in Petersburg, Va.
