– Third-ranked C.W. Post outscored Georgian Court 11-3 in the second half and went on to win, 18-7, during Wednesday afternoon's non-conference women's lacrosse match.
 
The win improves C.W. Post to 1-1 overall on the season while dropping Georgian Court to 1-1.
 
The Pioneers outshot the Lions by a 29-11 count and held a 26-13 advantage in ground balls.
 
Senior midfielder Katie Hogan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) led the Pioneer charge with three goals and three assists. Junior attacker Staci Passafiume (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) added two goals and three assists.
 
Georgian Court scored the first goal of the game with 28:25 on the clock when midfielder Natalie Bermudez found the back of the net on a feed from attacker Laura Housel.
 
The Pioneers found an answer when junior midfielder Brianne Jackolski (Shirley, N.Y.) scored on an assist from Hogan at 25:42. Georgian Court tied the game just over a minute later when Housel scored her second goal unassisted at 23:36.
 
Senior attacker Samantha Lyons (Farmingdale, N.Y.) caught a pass from Passafiume and broke the tie with a goal at 21:44 that gave the Pioneers the lead for good. 
 
Freshman midfielder Lauren Spagnoletta (West Islip, N.Y.) scored her first collegiate goal at 20:29 to make it 4-2 in favor of C.W. Post. The Pioneers held a 6-3 lead at the half.
 
In the second half, the Pioneers continued their offensive attack and scored five unanswered goals. The Lions scored their fourth goal of the game when Bermudez scored her third goal of the game on a pass from Housel at 21:42. Bermudez added her fourth goal unassisted at 20:23. 
 
C.W. Post closed out the game scoring the final four goals, beginning with Taryn Crimi (West Islip, N.Y.) at 4:32 and ending with Hogan's third goal of the game with three seconds remaining.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Sam Powers (Holbrook, N.Y.) made two stops in goal to preserve the win for the Pioneers.
 
Passafiume, Jackolski, senior attacker Jaclyn Napoli (West Islip, N.Y.) and Spagnoletta each had two tallies to their credit.
 
Bermudez led the Lions with four goals. Christine Latteri and Jillian Pennington split time in net and combined for 15 saves in the loss.
 
C.W. Post returns to action this weekend with a trip up to New England to face Southern New Hampshire on Friday, March 13 at 4 p.m.
