Baseball Falls To New Haven, 4-1

New Haven, Conn. (March 25, 2009)- The C.W. Post Pioneers came up just short Wednesday afternoon, falling to The University of New Haven Chargers 4-1.
The Pioneers now post an overall record of 5-16, 2-1 in conference play while the Chargers improve to 5-7 overall.
Both teams remained relatively quiet throughout five innings. Catching a small break in the second inning, the Pioneers could not capitalize as senior Anthony Montesano (Bellmore, N.Y.) earned a walk to put a man on base.
C.W. Post seemed to find a groove in the sixth inning, as senior Kyle Walker (Wantagh, N.Y.) doubled down the left field line to earn himself a spot on base. Bryan Bonin (Commack, N.Y.) then grounded out to second base, advancing walker to third. Montesano then singled to centerfield, receiving an RBI as Walker scored a run to put the Pioneers on the board. C.W. Post could not take advantage of their streak, closing out the inning with one run, two hits and two players left on base.
To the dismay of the Pioneers, the Chargers game out swinging for the remainder of the sixth inning. New Haven was able to tally four runs and hold the Pioneers off to earn the 4-1 win.
Steve Ferrara (Farmingdale, N.Y.) pitched 5.2 innings for C.W. Post allowing seven hits and two runs before he was replaced by teammate Steve Plochochi (Sayville, N.Y.). Plochochi allowed two runs and two hits in the sixth inning. Dan Walsh (Centereach, N.Y.) finished the game on the mound for the Pioneers, allowing one hit in his 2.1 innings of play.
Alex Smith held the Pioneers off for five innings to help the Chargers to the win, allowing two hits and one run. Eric Peck and Mitch Rossi split the final three innings of play to ensure a New Haven win.
The Pioneers are back in action March 27th as they travel to take on conference opponent Molloy College at 2:30 p.m.
