Box Score
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (March 6, 2009) – A late-inning push could not overcome a 15-run deficit as the baseball team dropped a 15-7 decision to the Lewis Flyers on Friday morning at the Russ Matt Collegiate Invitational in Winter Haven, Florida.
The Pioneers slip to 0-4 while the Flyers improve to 6-4 on the season.
Lewis touched freshman starter
Glen Hudson (West Sayville, N.Y.) or a run in the first as Mike Vucsko singled and scored on Tim Bingham's single to center field.
A five run second capped by a Bingham 3-run homer gave the Flyers a six run lead.
Chris Bingham held the Pioneers scoreless for four innings, but CWP finally got on the board in the fifth as
Stephen Orefice (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) reached on an error by the shortstop, and moved to third when
#P.J. Ragone# (Deer Park, N.Y.) ripped a double down the left field line. Freshman
Edward Bartley (Bethpage, N.Y.) plated Orefice with an RBI groundout.
Another big inning for the Flyers saw the home team push across seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 13-1 lead over the Pioneers. Ryan Koerner, Vucsko, and Chris McCall each had run-scoring hits in the inning, which also saw the Pioneer give up three walks, a hit batsmen and two wild pitches.

Bruce Testa's (Glen Cove, N.Y.) 2-RBI double capping the scoring.
The Pioneers got another run in the seventh as
Anthony Montesano (Bellmore, N.Y.) singled through the left side to score Bartley from third.
Lewis scored two more runs in the eighth, and despite two more runs for the Pioneers in the ninth, they fell short of the Flyers in dropping their fourth straight game.

Roger Pfeffer (Whitestone, N.Y.)
, Dan Walsh (Coram, N.Y.) and
