Dowling Edges Baseball In 11 Innings, 4-3
BROOKVHAVEN, N.Y. (April 9, 2009) - Senior second baseman
Kyle Walker (Wantagh, N.Y.) was 5-for-6 at the plate with an RBI but Dowling College held on to defeat C.W. Post, 4-3, in 11 innings Thursday afternoon in a non-conference baseball matchup.
Dowling improves to 15-10 overall while C.W. Post slips to 9-20 overall.
The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when junior shortstop
Bryan Bonin (Commack, N.Y.) scored from third in an infield single off the bat of senior outfielder
Bruce Testa (Glen Cove, N.Y.).
Dowling answered with three runs in the fifth inning on two RBI singles and a sacrfice bunt.
The Pioneers tied the game in the seventh when Walker hit an RBI single to score freshman catcher
Steve Orefice (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.), who reached base on a walk and advanced to second and third on ground outs. Freshman right fielder
Eddie Bartley (Bethpage, N.Y.) scored the tying run on a wild pitch.
The game remained tied and was pushed into extra frames, where the Golden Lions touched
Steven Plochochi (Sayville, N.Y.) for the loss when first baseman Frank Intagliata singled to right field to drive in the winning run.
C.W. Post will resume conference action at Queens College April 11 at 12 p.m.
