Baseball Falls to Dominican, 9-2

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (April 7, 2009) – A ninth-inning comeback that saw Dominican score seven runs in the inning toppled the baseball team, 9-2, in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.
C.W. Post slips to 9-19 overall while Dominican improves to 17-9.
C.W. Post took a 2-0 lead in the second as
Stephen Orefice (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) singled to lead off the inning and took second on a wild pitch. A failed pickoff attempt and an overthrow by the center fielder scored Orefice.
Edgar Marcelo (Bronx, N.Y.) followed with a walk and a stolen base, and then scored on
Kyle Walker's (Wantagh, N.Y.) single up the middle.
Dominican cut the lead to one in the third as Tom Maloney walked, stole second, and scored on a wild pitch.
The Pioneers held onto the lead until the seventh when Alexi Colon was hit by a pitch with two outs. He stole second and scored on Dan Perlleshi's single up the middle.
The top of the ninth saw the Chargers break the game open with a Mike Mortellaro leadoff double to right. Jason Berrios' infield single and Aramando Alvarez's double to right center scored the go-ahead run and put runners on second and third. A fielder's choice to the shortstop made the score 4-2, and an RBI groundout pushed the lead to 5-2. Another two-RBI single, a wild pitch and a balk accounted for the rest of the scoring as the Chargers took control of the game for a 9-2 advantage.
The Pioneers went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the ninth as Casey Smith earned the win.
Glen Hudson took the loss on the mound, giving up seven runs on four hits, three walks and one strikeout.
Walker had two hits to pace the Pioneers.
