Baseball Drops Two to Adelphi
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (May 2, 2009) – C.W. Post dropped a doubleheader to Adelphi, 4-2 and 6-0, in East Coast Conference baseball action on Saturday afternoon.
C.W. Post drops to 13-30 and 10-12 in the conference, while Adelphi now stands at 26-14 and has a conference mark of 16-7.
The Pioneers took a 2-0 lead in the third as
Kyle Walker (Wantagh, N.Y.) and
Anthony Montesano (Bellmore, N.Y.) knocked in runs. Adelphi answered right back in the top of the fourth as Chris Weidlein and Matt Kenny each hit two-RBI doubles.
Brian Saldana (Deer Park, N.Y.) took the loss, throwing nine innings and scattering seven hits. Only four Pioneers managed hits against Adelphi's Keith Couch, who improved to 7-1 on the season.
The nightcap was a similar story as the Panthers' Mike Bartlett allowed just two hits, to Walker and Montesano, and pounded out six runs to coast to the shutout victory.
After three scoreless innings Adelphi scored three runs, two courtesy of a two-run homer from Bill Melillo, followed by a run scoring double from Kenny.
The Panthers tacked on three more runs in the fifth as Ryan Bolesen roped a three-run homer, giving Adelphi a 6-0 lead.
Glen Hudson (Sayville, N.Y.) took the loss, throwing 4.1 innings, allowing six runs on six hits. He struck out five and walked three batters.
