Swimming Takes Six Events at the Millersville Relay Carnival

MILLERSIVLLE, PA.
(Oct. 16, 2010) – The C.W. Post women's swimming team came away with six first place finishes at the Millersville Relay Carnival.  Out of the ten events at the meet, the Pioneers were able to take six of the events in front of opposing schools East Stroudsburg and Millersville.

In the first event, sophomores Mairi Morrison (Carnock, United Kingdom) and Cornelia Hanes (Stockholm, Sweden) teamed with senior Riley Cassidy (Cambridge, Ontario) to win the 300 Butterfly Relay with a time of 2:43.81. 

Sophomores Sandra Kirstein (Hollviken, Sweden) and Kristina Fritsch (Brooklyn, N.Y.) would create a trio with freshman Mathilde Hyddmark (Lund, Sweden) to take the second event of the day, the 300 Backstroke Relay, with a time 2:43.80, six seconds ahead of the second place finisher East Stroudsburg.

The next win would wait until the fifth event, where Hanes and Fritsch would team with Brooke Aksnes and Sandra Luiga (Jarfalla, Sweden) in the 500 Freestyle Relay with a time of 5:05.37.  Event seven would also produce another Pioneer win with a Kirstein, Hanes, Cassidy, and freshman Tamara Garriock (Duncan, Canada) team producing a time of 1:40.97.

The long distance eighth event, 1500 yard Freestyle Relay, would see the team of Fritsch, Garriock, and freshman Chelcee Hew (Savage, Minn.) taking 500 yards each and completing the relay event in a time of 16:42.05.  The final event of the day would produce the sixth and final win of the day for the Pioneers as Hanes, Cassidy, Morrison, and Garriock would complete the 400 Freestyle Relay in a time of 3:47.41. 

The Pioneers will next compete on Nov. 3 as competition at the Pratt Recreation Center pool will begin with a 5 p.m. meet against Queens College.
