Swimming's Nine First Place Finishes Not Enough In Dual-Meet Loss to Southern Connecticut, 138-152
NEW HAVEN, CONN. (Nov. 14, 2010) – C.W. women's swimming dropped its first meet of the year during a competitive meet against the Southern Connecticut Owls in New Haven, Conn, 138-152. Pioneer relay teams won two events during the day.
The 200 Medley Relay was the first event of the day with the team of freshmen
Mathilde Hyddmark (Lund, Sweden)
Tamara Garriock (Duncan, Canada), sophomore
Cornelia Hanes (Stockholm, Sweden), and senior
Riley Cassidy (Cambridge, Ontario) winning in a time of 1:49.55. The team was able to fend off four different Owl teams competing in the event.
Sophomore
Kristina Fritsch (Brooklyn, N.Y.) took the third event of the day as she finished the 200 Free in a time of 2:01.58. Garriock achieved another two individual wins on the year during the 100 Breast and 200 Breast with times of 1:07.17 2:25.39. Hanes also took back to back events in the 50 and 100 Free. Her times consisted of 24.80 and 54.32 respectively. Hyddmark came up with an individual win as well during the 200 Back in her finishing time of 2:14.76. Cassidy was the last Pioneer to take an individual event when she registered a 58.30 during the 100 Fly.
The final win on the day for C.W. Post came with Hanes and Garriock teaming up with sophomores
Mairi Morrison (Carnock, United Kingdom) and
Sandra Kirstein (Hollviken, Sweden) to complete the 200 Free Relay in a time of 1:40.18.
However, the nine first place finishes were not enough as the Owls showed great competiveness in each and every event to keep the points coming. Southern Connecticut was able to come up with five first place finishes as well.
The Pioneer swim team will next be in action this Friday Nov. 19 as the squad travels to Army for a seven p.m. dual meet.
