WEST POINT, N.Y. (Nov. 19, 2010) – Freshman
Tamara Garriock (Duncan, Canada) led the Pioneer swimming team with three first place finishes, however Army was able to accumulate more points during the 16 event meet at West Point with a 141-133 dual meet victory.
Garriock continues to be impressive during her freshman year, adding another three first place finishes to her career total during Friday's meet against Army. Her first place time of 1:51.87 was four seconds faster than the closest competitor during the 200 Free. She then outpaced her opponents again during the 200 Back, where she placed a time of 2:21.66 to take first place. Her last individual victory came in the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:06.44.
Sophomore
Cornelia Hanes (Stockholm, Sweden) also tallied two individual victories during the meet, continuing her good start to the year as well. The 50 Free was her first win on the night, posting a time of 24.25. She then later completed the 100 Free in a first place time of 53.36.
Senior
Riley Cassidy (Cambridge, Ontario) just edged out teammate
Mathilde Hyddmark (Lund, Sweden) during the 200 Fly, as the two finished 2:09.13 and 2:09.99 respectively.
The C.W. Post relay teams also continue to be a strong part of the team, as squads earned two relay event victories during the first and last events on the night. The team of Cassidy, Hanes, Garriock, and sophomore
Sandra Kirstein (Hollviken, Sweden) earned a victory in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:47.23. Later, Cassidy, Hanes, and Kirstein came back to team with sophomore
Mairi Morrison (Carnock, United Kingdom) to complete a victory in the 400 Free Relay, edging out two Army squads, with a time of 3:35.26.
However, Army used a balanced effort from its swimmers in all events to accumulate 141 points during the event, eight more than C.W. Post.
Next for the Pioneer swimming team will be the ECAC Open on Dec. 3 for an all day event.
