Tamara Garriock Set a New Pool Record in the 200 Individual Medley Event

Swimming Defeats Queens, 120-71; Tamara Garriock and Relay Team Set Pool Records

BROOKVILLE, N.Y.
(Nov. 2, 2010) – The C.W. Post women's swimming team began its dual-meet scheduled today with a home win over Queens College. The Pioneers defeated the Knights by a final score of 120-71. Freshman Tamara Garriock (Duncan, Canada) also set a new pool record during the meet in the 200 Individual Medley, defeating the previous record by over two seconds. 

The first event was an exhibition match and did not go towards the final team scores, as the A C.W. Post relay team pulled out the win in the 200 Medley Relay. The relay team of Garriock, sophomores Sandra Kirstein (Hollviken, Sweden) and Cornelia Hanes (Stockholm, Sweden), and senior Riley Cassidy (Cambridge, Ontario) finished the event in a time of 1:50.64. 

The longest distance event of the day, the 1650 Free, was comprised of only Knight swimming participants. Junior Angela Parra would edge out her teammates, finishing the event in 19:40.07.

Freshman Mathilde Hyddmark (Lund, Sweden) won two events on the day, beginning in event three with the 200 Free and then again during the 200 Back, the eighth event of the day. Her times consisted of 2:00.00 and 2:12.58 respectively. 

Hanes also won two individual events, events four and seven, taking the 50 Free in a time of 24.43 and the 100 Free with a time of 54.23. 

It was the fifth event that Garriock set the Pool Record in during the 200 Individual Medley. Garriock finished the course in a time of 2:09.36. The previous Pool Record was set on Dec. 8, 2007 by Bridgeport swimmer Aleksandra Byczynska when she finished the event in a time of 2:11.90.

Cassidy was the first to touch the wall during the 200 Butterfly when she clocked a time of 2:13.11 during the sixth event of the day. Freshman Chelcee Hew (Savage, Minn.) also took home an individual event win when she placed first in the ninth event of the day, the 500 Free, with a time of 5:24.21. 

The last event of the day was the 400 Free Relay, with the C.W. Post A team taking home the win with a time of 3:40.74 and establishing another pool record on the day.  The team was made up of Kirstein, Cassidy, Hanes, and sophomore Mairi Morrison (Carnock, United Kingdom). 

The Pioneers will be back in the Pratt Recreation Center for a dual meet when Sacred Heart University will come to Brookville for a 1 p.m. start time.
