Box Score
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (May 2, 2010) –
The Pioneer pitching staff issued nine walks to Molloy on Sunday, and the Lions took full advantage, outscoring the C.W. Post baseball team 9-2 in the final regular season East Coast Conference game for both teams.

Prior to the game, the Pioneers honored their ten seniors, who played their final regular season home game at C.W. Post, for their hard work and dedication over the past four seasons.  The seniors include Joseph Armenti (Dix Hills, N.Y.), Brian Anderson (Nesconset, N.Y.), Bryan Bonin (Commack, N.Y.), Pete Budkevics (Deer Park, N.Y.), Mike Callaghan (East Meadow, N.Y.), Mark Czerniawski (Glen Cove, N.Y.), Kyle Dean (Southbury, Conn.), Bobby Kay (Stony Brook, N.Y.), Stephen Orefice (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.), and Brian Saldana (Deer Park, N.Y.).

C.W. Post went ends the regular season at 28-14-1 (22-8 ECC), while Molloy finishes with a record of 27-22, 20-10 in conference bid.

Brian Benes (Omaha, Neb.) doubled to right center to lead off the second inning, and scored on a triple to right center by Erik Pyle (Atlantic Beach, N.Y.).  Greg Walsh (Bellmore, N.Y.) singled up the middle to drive in another run.  Two more RBI singles in the inning gave Molloy a 5-0 advantage.

The Pioneers showed signs of life in the bottom of the inning, as freshman Dan Burnett (Farmingdale, N.Y.) doubled to left center with two outs, and the next batter, freshman Casey McKay (North Massapequa, N.Y.) doubled to right field for the Pioneers' first run of the game.

But the Lions tacked on another three runs in the fourth as walks loaded the bases and sacrifice flies drove in the runs, and Molloy led 8-1 midway through the fourth inning.

The Pioneers scratched out another run as McKay hit into a bases-loaded fielder's choice that plated a run, but another Molloy run in the fifth gave the visitors a 9-2 lead, and it proved to be insurmountable for the Pioneers.

Burnett led the way with a 2-for-2 effort at the plate, while freshman Zack Badanes (Syosset, N.Y.) took the loss, allowing five runs on six hits through two innings.  Relievers Chris Armstrong (Highland Mills, N.Y.), Steve Plochochi (Sayville, N.Y.) and Greg Byrnes (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) combined to throw five scoreless innings to end the game.

Gary Bitetto (Franklin Square, N.Y.) pitched to the victory for Molloy, scattering eight hits and allowing only two runs.  Patrick Brown (Howard Beach, N.Y.) earned the save with four scoreless innings in relief.

The Pioneers will await the announcement from the conference about their opponent and game time in the upcoming ECC Tournament.
