Volleyball Sweeps Both Pace, 3-0, and Southern Connecticut, 3-0, in Tri-Match

    BROOKVILLE, N.Y.
(Sept. 11) Volleyball took both matches in today's tri-match. First it was Southern Connecticut University who was the victim of a Pioneer sweep, 3-0, followed by Pace University, who were also swept 3-0 by C.W. Post.
    
    In the first match, the Pioneers put forth a great effort to edge out the Setters of Pace in each game (25-21, 25-22, 25-19). Coming to be an every match regularity is the setting of senior Amanda Ostapow (East Setauket, N.Y.), who led the team with 30 assists. Many of those assists in the first match were to the benefit of senior Marilena Guadagnini (Huntington Beach, Calif.). Guadagnini led all participants with 20 kills.
    
    The Setters also saw a great distribution effort by Shea Hansen. Hansen led all players with 37 assists in the match. Victoria Pompilus led the team with 15 kills, while Nora Rugova added 10.
    
    The middle match saw Pace University take on Southern Connecticut University. Pace out last a comeback effort from Southern Connecticut to win the match, 3-1.

    In the final match of the day, the Pioneers would take on the Owls of Southern Connecticut. C.W. Post would go on to take the match in a sweep, 3-0, with Ostapow again behind the charge. She would finish the match with a double-double, tallying 23 assists and 12 digs. In the kill column, freshman Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii) led with 11 kills. The Pioneers also compiled nine blocks as a team, including three solo blocks and one block assist by junior Laura Garbarino (Nutley, N.J.).
    
    Kimberly Lachowicz had a double-double for the Owls, earning 15 assists and 13 digs. 
    
    Volleyball pushes its overall record to 6-2 in the early part of the season. The next action for the team will be Wednesday Sept. 15 as the Pioneers will welcome to the Pratt Recreation Center the University of New Haven.
