C.W. Post Swimmers Earn Five Individual Victories Despite Loss to Bridgeport, 98-93

BRIDGEPORT, CONN. (January 29, 2011) – The C.W. Post women's swimming team was able to pick up five individual wins to go along with one relay team victory in a dual meet against the Bridgeport Purple Knights. The Purple Knights just edged out the Pioneers in the final point total, 98-93.
The “A” relay team of C.W. Post started off the meet with a victory against the “A” team of Bridgeport. Senior
Riley Cassidy (Cambridge, Ontario), sophomores
Cornelia Hanes (Stockholm, Sweden) and
Mairi Morrison (Carnock, United Kingdom), and freshman
Tamara Garriock (Duncan, Canada) teamed to complete the 400 Medley Relay in a time of 4:31.60.
Each one of these swimmers went on to take individual events during the meet as well. Hanes just narrowly beat out Bridgeport's Roxana Purcelea during the 50 Free, finishing with a time of 27.30, .05 ahead of Purcelea. Cassidy then completed the 100 Butterfly in 1:06.60 to take first place. The next event, the 100 Free, was completed by Morrison in a time of 1:00.87 to take the victory. Garriock then completed three straight wins for C.W. Post with a successful outcome during the 100 Back, finishing at 1:08.54.
The final C.W. Post individual victory came due to the effort of
Chelcee Hew (Savage, Minn.) during the 100 Breast. Hew finished the event in a time of 1:17.48.
Next up for the Pioneers will be the East Stroudsburg Invitational next Saturday, February 5. The invitational event will get underway at 12 p.m.
