Women's Swimming Takes Fourth Place at Metropolitan Championships
PISCATWAY, N.J. (February 21, 2011) – The C.W. Post women's swimming team finished the three day event of the Metropolitan Championships with a fourth place finish out of 19 teams participating. The Pioneers used the three days of events to accumulate 902.50 points.
Sunday was just like the previous two days for the Pioneer women, setting many cuts for NCAA qualifying. Starting off the day was the 100 Free event, with both
Cornelia Hanes (Stockholm, Sweden) and
Mairi Morrison (Carnock, United Kingdom) both finishing in the top five. Hanes hit a NCAB cut with a time of 52.59, good enough for second. Morrison finished less than a second behind at 53.39, finishing fourth and qualifying for NC2B.
Tamara Garriock (Duncan, Canada) once again took an individual event during the weekend, completing the 200 Breaststroke course in a time of 2:22.85 for a second place finish and NCAB cut. Teammate
Chelcee Hew (Savage, Minn.) also participated in the event, finishing fourth with a time of 2:25.52 and a NC2B cut.
The lone senior on the Pioneer roster,
Riley Cassidy (Cambridge, Ontario), also took an individual event during Sunday's events. The senior took the 200 Fly event in a second place finish at 2:08.62 and earning a NC2B cut.
The last event saw another great performance by a Pioneer relay team during the 400 Free Relay
event. Garriock, Hanes, and Morrison came back after their own individual events to team with
Iria Ruiperez to finish second with a time of 3:32.21 and earning a NCAB cut.
The next few weeks for the Pioneer will be a preparation time for the NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships in Palo Alto, Texas. The event will be a three-day, all day event taking place March 9-12.
