C.W. Post Women's Swimming Team Has Strong Showing at East Stroudsburg Invitational

EAST STROUSBURG, N.J. (February 5, 2011) – The C.W. Post women's swimming team had a strong showing Saturday at the East Stroudsburg Invitational. The Pioneer women completed the 17-event day with nine first place victories against East Stroudsburg and Mansfield.
During the first event of the day, both the 'A' and 'B' relay teams of C.W. Post notched the top two spots during the 200 Medley Relay. The 'A' team, comprised of senior
Riley Cassidy (Cambridge, Ontario), sophomores
Cornelia Hanes (Stockholm, Sweden) and
Mairi Morrison (Carnock, United Kingdom), and freshman
Tamara Garriock (Duncan, Canada), took first place in the event with a team of 1:50.98. The 'B' team completed the event in the time of 1:53.58 to take second place. The team was made up of sophomore
Sandra Kirstein (Hollviken, Sweden) and freshmen
Sandra Ann Luiga (Jarfalla, Sweden),
Chelcee Hew (Savage, Minn.) and
Iria Ruiperez (Madrid, Spain).
Later, Hanes took the 22-swimmer 50 Free event with a time of 24.72. Fellow teammates Ruiperez, Morrison, Cassidy, Garriock, and Kirstein finished in fourth through eighth place respectively. Hanes also won later on the 100 Butterfly in a time of 1:00.42.
Hew also took two events on the day as an individual swimmer. The first win came during the 200 Free with a 1:59.73 winning time. The second win came in another 200 event, this time taking the 200 Breaststroke in a time of 2:28.84. Luiga, Cassidy, and Kristina Fristch (Brooklyn, N.Y.) all took home solo victories as well during the Invitational.
The relay teams once again took the top two spots in the final relay event of the day, the 200 Free Relay. The 'A' team finished first with a 1:41.47 time, while the 'B' team finished at a time of 1.43.47 for second place.
Next up for the Pioneer women are the Metropolitan Conference Championships at Rutgers University during the weekend of February 18.
