Groeneveld Tabbed ECC Player of the Week

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Apr. 28, 2015) - On Monday, LIU Post baseball junior first baseman David Groeneveld (Centereach, N.Y.) was named the East Coast Conference Player of the Week, the league announced.

Groeneveld led the Pioneers by hitting .615 in four ECC games last week, bringing his 2015 batting average up to .322, which ranks second on the team. The first baseman went 8-for-13 with two runs batted in and a run scored. He also collected 11 total bases and slugged at an .846 clip.

In addition, he drew three walks and was hit by a pitch, giving him an on-base percentage of .706.

Not known for his speed, Groeneveld was 1-for-1 in stolen bases, as well.

In the series opener against Queens on Friday (Apr. 24), Groeneveld went 3-for-4 with a double, as the green and gold clinched a spot in the ECC Championship for the first time since 2012.

Groeneveld and the Pioneers are back in action on Tuesday (Apr. 28), when they host American International in a non-conference tilt at 3:30 p.m. at the LIU Post Baseball Field in Brookville.
