NEWBERRY, S.C. (Jan. 13, 2016) - Following a 1-3 outing on the mat last week, the LIU Post wrestling team fell one notch to eighth in the D2Wrestle.com Super Region I Poll, released Tuesday.

The Pioneers suffered losses to fifth-ranked Notre Dame College of Ohio (33-9), The University of North Carolina at Pembroke (26-9) and West Liberty University (24-19), but bounced back with a 28-12 win over East Stroudsburg University.

Sophomore Joe Calderone (Huntington Station, N.Y.) was overtaken by Notre Dame's David Bavery at No. 1 in the 133-lb. rankings. Last Sunday (Jan. 3), Calderone, who now ranks second, dropped an 11-6 decision to Bavery. He rebounded from the loss with three straight victories, two via technical fall and one via pinfall.

In the 141- and 165-lb. rankings, junior Vinny Turano (Wantagh, N.Y.) and sophomore Ed Ramirez, Jr. (Massapequa, N.Y.) made their debuts in the No. 6 position. Turano has won nine consecutive bouts, dating back to Dec. 4. Four of those victories have come via technical fall, including three shutouts, and two by major decision.

Ramirez has hovered around .500 at 165, boasting a 14-14 overall record. Last week, he returned to action for the first time since early-December, going 2-2 with wins over Notre Dame's Victor Pereira and East Stroudsburg's Josh Deutel.

Sophomore Ronnie King (Islip, N.Y.) rose two spots to fourth at 184. He grappled his way to three tough losses last week, two of which were to the top- (Joey Davis - Notre Dame) and third-ranked (Tyler Richardson - East Stroudsburg) wrestlers in the region at his weight class.

Lastly, fellow sophomore James Louison (Hauppauge, N.Y.) dipped to sixth at heavyweight. He currently sits at 7-4 overall and 4-2 in duals. Louison's most recent bout was a 6-4 loss to now-No. 5 ranked Almonte Patrick of Notre Dame on Jan. 3.
