COLCHESTER, Vt. (Oct. 15, 2016) - The No. 5 LIU Post field hockey team got back on track Saturday with a 3-0 shutout of Saint Michael's College in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up at Duffy Field.
Junior midfielder
Alyssa Lopresti (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) tallied her second career hat trick in the win. She last achieved the feat in a 6-0 victory against St. Thomas Aquinas College on Sept. 13, 2015.
Lopresti wasted no time getting the Pioneers (9-3, 5-3 NE-10) on the board, scoring her first goal only 2:45 into the contest. On a 2-on-1 opportunity, she fired an
Emily Miller (Bridgewater, N.J.) pass into the cage, staking the visitors to a quick 1-0 edge.
Less than 10 minutes later, Lopresti ripped a
Bailey Martin (Honesdale, Pa.) cross past Purple Knights' (4-10, 1-7 NE-10) senior goalie Abigail Bowie (Readfield, Maine) to double the green and gold's lead.
LIU Post, which limited Saint Michael's to just one shot in the first 35 minutes, brought a 2-0 advantage into the half.
In the latter period, Lopresti completed the hat trick. After receiving a pass from
Grace Ilias (Toronto, Ontario, Canada), she beat Bowie with a shot into the left side of the goal at the 14:29 mark.
Overall, the Pioneers owned a dominating 17-3 differential in shots and earned nine penalty corners to the Purple Knights' three.
Between the pipes, senior goaltender
Ericka Parks (Nesconset, N.Y.) made two saves for LIU Post. Her counterpart, Bowie, stopped 10 shots for Saint Michael's.
Head Coach
Raenee Savin and the Pioneers return to action Wednesday (Oct. 19), when they face Pace University in an NE-10 clash at 4 p.m. in Pleasantville, N.Y.
