EAST MEADOW, N.Y. (Oct. 7, 2016) - During the past week, the LIU Post women's tennis team competed at the 2016 ITA East Region Championships, hosted by New York Institute of Technology at Eisenhower Park.
Sophomore
Lara Scholtze (Bad Homburg, Germany) reached the quarterfinal round of the singles draw. She won a three-set nailbiter (6-3, 3-6, 10-7) against Southern New Hampshire's Sofia Morais (Porto, Portugal) and bested Post's Liza Dubrovskaya (Rostov-on-Don, Russia) in straight sets (6-0, 6-1) to advance to the quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinals, Scholtze put up a tough fight in a 6-4, 6-3 loss to NYIT's Lena Dimmer (Wallendorf-Pont, Luxembourg).
Fellow sophomore
Shanice Arthur (Brookville, N.Y.) won her opening match via forfeit against Adelphi's Karen Serina (East Islip, N.Y.), before dropping a 7-5, 6-1 decision to Queens' Laura Ortega (Cuenca, Spain) in the third round.
In the doubles bracket, the tandem of Scholtze and freshman
Charlotte Hynes (Weston, Fla.) cruised to an 8-0 rout of Molloy's Tiffany Nagasawa (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and Christie Catterson (Amityville, N.Y.) in first-round action.
The pair followed up that showing with a 9-7 second-round victory over Merrimack's Mia Briggs (York, Maine) and Lauren Persson (Barnstable, Mass.).
However, Scholtze and Hynes' run came to an end in the third round, where they fell to Queens' Emy Alpund (Engelberg, Switzerland) and Angelika Sobiecka (Mlawa, Poland), 8-5.

Walter Giacometti and the Pioneers return to the court on Saturday (Oct. 8), when they face Queens College in an East Coast Conference showdown at 11 a.m. in Flushing.
