ITHACA, N.Y. (Nov. 20, 2016)
- Senior T.J. Fabian (Wading River, N.Y.) and freshman Anthony Sparacio (North Babylon, N.Y.) each placed fourth Sunday to lead the LIU Post wrestling team at the 2016 New York State Championships at Cornell University.

In the 125-lb. weight class, Sparacio won three straight bouts in the wrestlebacks, en route to reaching the third-place match. He majored Brockport's Dillon Stockwell, 16-7, before winning a pair of four-point decisions against Cortland's Andrew Roden and Ithaca's James Kaishian.

Then, at 149., Fabian pinned Oneonta's Matt Marino (1:42) and Hofstra's Ryan Burkert (2:42) in consecutive matches to advance to the quarterfinals. Though he subsequently lost to Buffalo's Colt Cotten via pinfall in the quarters, Fabian bounced back with a 3-2 victory over Hofstra's Connor Muli in the consolation bracket.

In the 133-lb. discipline, senior Tyler Walsh (West Islip, N.Y.), who earned a first-round bye, teched Oswego's Bryan Coll, 16-0, and majored Buffalo's Brandon Gould, 15-7. However, Walsh's run came to an end in the quarterfinals, losing to Army's Lane Peters, 13-0.

Meanwhile, at 197, senior Freddy Vidal (Westbury, N.Y.) defeated Army's Steven Hoadley (16-0) and Dalton Shoop (6-1), but lost 7-2 to Ithaca's Thomas Anania in the quarters.

Freshman Bobby Pease (Medford, N.Y.) earned his first collegiate pinfall at the 184-lb. weight class, pinning SUNY Ulster's Alex Munoz in 2:43.

Head Coach Joe Patrovich and the Pioneers return to the mat next Sunday (Nov. 27), when they square off with University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown at the fifth-annual Grapple at the Garden at Madison Square Garden. The dual is slated for a 12:30 p.m. start.
