ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Mar. 19, 2016) - Four different players tallied at least three goals for the Pioneers Saturday, as the No. 4/5 LIU Post women's lacrosse team earned an 18-4 win over East Coast Conference rival Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester.
Despite trailing 1-0 less than five minutes in, the Pioneers (5-1, 1-0 ECC) closed out the first half on a 12-2 run to bring a 12-3 advantage into the intermission. Junior attacker
Stefani Vagelatos (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and freshman midfielder
Ryan McKinney (Downingtown, Pa.) netted three goals apiece in the period.
In the second half, senior attacker
Emily Delaney (Long Valley, N.J.) got in on the scoring, notching three goals, two of which occurred in a span of 4:19. She also had four assists in the first 30 minutes.
LIU Post eventually built as much as a 14-goal cushion (18-4) with 1:58 remaining in the contest, on a goal by junior attacker
Connor Bird (Syosset, N.Y.).
Delaney had a career-high-tying nine points (4 G, 5 A) and caused two turnovers in the victory. Vagelatos tallied seven points, including a game-high five goals. McKinney scored four goals. Bird, who won five draws, amassed three goals and an assist for a four-point day. Junior defender/midfielder
Cara Douglas (West Islip, N.Y.) scooped up five draw controls, as well.
Between the pipes, sophomore goalie
Olivia Kirk (Farmingdale, N.Y.) made five saves. Her counterpart, Shannon Knapp (Lafayette, N.Y.), turned aside nine shots.
The Pioneers outshot the Redhawks (2-5, 1-2 ECC) by a near 4-to-1 margin (35-9) and owned a 13-6 edge in ground balls. Additionally, LIU Post won 21 draws to Roberts' three.

Meghan McNamara and her LIU Post squad return to action Wednesday (Mar. 23), when they host ECC foe Molloy College for a 3:30 p.m. opening draw at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium in Brookville.
