CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Apr. 18, 2016) - On Monday, LIU Post senior first baseman
David Groeneveld (Centereach, N.Y.) was selected as the East Coast Conference Player of the Week.
Groeneveld had a career week at the plate, going 10-for-21 in five games. The senior hit two doubles, a triple and a home run for 17 total bases. He also drove in nine runs, six of which came in a 15-7 victory against Dowling College on Apr. 11.
It was the first time since 2012 that a Pioneer collected six or more RBIs in a single game. Groeneveld's nine RBIs brought his season total to an ECC-leading 30, the highest for an LIU Post hitter since three players eclipsed the 30-RBI mark in 2010.
Additionally, Groeneveld capped the week with a walk-off single in the Pioneers' 13-12 win over University of Bridgeport on Sunday (Apr. 17).
LIU Post returns to action on Wednesday (Apr. 20), when they head to Bloomfield, N.J. to take on Bloomfield College in a non-conference game. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
