OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Sept. 17, 2016) - The LIU Post women's tennis team suffered an 8-1 loss Saturday at the hands of East Coast Conference rival New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury.
The result moves the Pionees to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in ECC play. Meanwhile, the Bears improved to 4-0 and 3-0 against league opposition.
In top doubles, sophomores
Stanislava Klymova (Dnipro, Ukraine) and
Shanice Arthur (Brookville, N.Y.) dropped a hard-fought 9-8 match to Gabriela Siembao (Chrzanow, Poland) and Karolina Pondusova (Briatislava, Slovakia).
Sophomore
Lara Scholtze (Bad Homburg, Germany) and freshman
Charlotte Hynes (Weston, Fla.) fell to Melanie Benyadi (Saint Etienne, France) and Lena Dimmer (Wallendorf-Pont, Luxembourg) at the second-doubles flight, 8-2.
At No. 1 singles, Arthur split the first two sets with Dimmer, before dropping the third in a 1-6, 7-5, 9-11 loss. Scholtze rallied from an opening-set defeat to knock off Pondusova, 2-6, 7-5, 12-10 in the second position. Klymova came up short against Benyadi in the third-singles flight, falling in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4.

Walter Giacometti and his LIU Post squad are back in action Friday (Sept. 23), when they face Molloy College in an ECC tilt at 2:30 p.m. at the Hempstead Lake Indoor Tennis Center in West Hempstead.
