West Babylon, NY| The East Coast Conference released its weekly awards on Monday afternoon, and amongst the winners were sophomore Kaitlyn Klein of the women's track and field team and senior Sasha Patterson of the women's basketball team, who earned Field Athlete of the Week and Player of the Week recognition, respectively.
Kaitlyn Klein (So.) – Women's Field Athlete of the Week
On Friday, the LIU Post women's indoor track and field team kicked off the 2017-18 season on Friday at the Metro Season. Klein had an impressive showing in the weight throw competition. Klein heaved the iron 14.45m for third place. Her throw establishes a new LIU Post school record, breaking the old mark set by Jenn Wishen in 2003.
Sasha Patterson (Sr.) – Women's Basketball Player of the Week
In LIU Post's 2-0 week, Sasha Patterson tallied two double-doubles in as many contests, averaging 23.0 points and 12.5 rebounds-per-game. In Wednesday victory at Bloomfield on Nov. 29, the forward posted game-high numbers in points (19) and rebounds (11). On December 2, Patterson went for a career-best 27 points and grabbed 14 boards in an 87-69 win over Wilmington. In addition, Patterson added 2.5 steals per game and shot a scorching 70.4 from the field on the week, sinking 19-of-27 shots.
