STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (Feb. 3, 2017)
- The LIU Post men's and women's indoor track and field teams ran Friday at the Metropolitan Conference Championships at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island.

The Pioneers performed well against an array of Division I opponents. The women's team tied for ninth at the meet, while the men's team came in 11th.

Junior Talya Williams (Schenectady, N.Y.) led the women's side with a second-place time of 9:57.85 in the 3,000-meter run. That mark broke her own school record (10:02.45) from Jan. 14 at Yale.

In the 5,000-meter run, graduate Elizabeth Stirling (Wantagh, N.Y.) placed fourth at a school-record 18:09.65. Graduate Ashlin Conroy (Syosset, N.Y.) followed in eighth (18:30.44) in the race.

Freshman Alexandria Okon (Laurel, Md.) took sixth in the 800-meter run, after crossing at 2:23.42. Fellow freshman Nicolette Agostinacchio (Wantagh, N.Y.) was 10th (3:10.67) in the 1,000-meter run.

Freshman Nicole Costanzo (Nesconset, N.Y.) eclipsed a height of 1.55 meters (5 feet, 1 inch) in the high jump, which was good for a fourth-place effort. She also finished 14th (2,496 points) in her first collegiate pentathlon.

For the men, the team of senior Stefan Adams (Jamaica, N.Y.), red-shirt junior Kyle Ward (Elizabeth, N.J.), sophomore Jermaine Ifill (Flushing, N.Y.) and freshman Damario Hussey (Cedarhurst, N.Y.) ran to a sixth-place time of 3:28.69 in the 4 x 400-meter relay.

Adams added a fifth-place finish (50.20) in the 400-meter dash. Freshman Jeffrey Reyes (Bay Shore, N.Y,) clocked a 10th-place time of 2:35.25 in the 1,000-run. Red-shirt sophomore Kasim Thomas (Bronx, N.Y.) was 11th (7.23) in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash.

Three Pioneers also had personal-bests on the day. Ifill sprinted to a 51.54 in the 400-dash. Freshmen Justin Ortega (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and Twary McKenzie (Huntington, N.Y.) leapt to distances of 12.25 meters (40 feet, 2.25 inches) and 6.09 meters (19 feet, 11.75 inches) in the triple jump and long jump, respectively.

Red-shirt junior Ramel Joseph (Jamaica, N.Y.) sprinted to a 23.01 clocking in the 200-meter dash. Junior Ryan Gioe (Huntington Station, N.Y.) recorded a time of 9:28.65 in the 3,000-meter run.

Head Coach Kevin Buckley and the Pioneers are back in action next Saturday (Feb. 11), when they compete at the St. Joseph's College Winter Invitational at St. Anthony's High School in South Huntington, N.Y.
