CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Apr. 17, 2017) - The East Coast Conference awarded its weekly baseball honors Monday, and LIU Post sophomore catcher/first baseman
Anthony Vaglica (Franklin Square, N.Y.) was selected as the league's player of the week.
Vaglica hit at a team-leading .444 clip in a four-game span last week with a home run and five RBIs. He also scored four runs, while boasting a .667 slugging and .500 on-base percentage.
In the Pioneers' series opener against Queens last Thursday (Apr. 13), Vaglica went 3-for-4 at the plate and lined the eventual game-winning two-run single in a 3-0 victory.
Then, on Saturday (Apr. 15), Vaglica batted a combined 4-for-9 with a solo homer, three RBIs and three runs scored in a doubleheader split at Queens.
With less than three weeks left in the regular season, Vaglica is currently tied for the second-most RBIs (27) and third-most home runs (5) in the ECC. Additionally, he ranks fifth in the league in total bases (59) and sixth in doubles (8) and slugging percentage (.527).
Vaglica and the Pioneers return to action Wednesday (Apr. 19), when they host University of Bridgeport in an ECC showdown at 3:30 p.m. at the LIU Post Baseball Field in Brookville.
