EASTON, Mass. (Apr. 8, 2017) - On Saturday, the LIU Post softball team split with Southern New Hampshire University in a non-conference doubleheader at Stonehill's Father William Gartland Field in Easton.

The Pioneers (14-12) fought back to claim a 3-2 extra-inning victory in the opener, before suffering a tough 7-4 defeat in the nightcap.

Game #1: LIU Post 3, Southern New Hampshire 2 - F/8
Trailing 2-0 through five innings in the opener, the Pioneers battled back to tie the score in their half of the sixth to force extras.

Following a one-out walk to freshman outfielder Ashley Casazza (Wantagh, N.Y.), sophomore catcher Julia Seader (Piscataway, N.J.) launched a game-tying two-run homer to even things up at 2-2.

Though the green and gold were limited to just two hits in six of the first seven innings, the visitors struck for the eventual game-winning run in the top of the eighth.

Seader came through with a two-out RBI single to plate senior infielder Kayla McCoy (Smithtown, N.Y.), who reached base on a lead-off single.

Sophomore pitcher Hannah Olshevski (Robbinsville, N.J.) was brilliant in the circle yet again for the Pioneers. She threw eight innings of five-hit, two-run (one earned), two-walk, four-strikeout ball.

Game #2: LIU Post 4, Southern New Hampshire 7
In the nightcap, the Pioneers got on the scoreboard first, tallying three runs in the top of the third.

After singles by freshman shortstop Allie Laird (Holbrook, N.Y.) and Marrone put runners on the corners, Seader took a 1-2 offering out of the yard to stake the visitors to a 3-0 advantage.

The green and gold weren't done there. Laird laced an RBI single in the fourth to score junior first baseman Gianna Gatto (Hauppauge, N.Y.), which extended the Pioneers' lead to 4-0.

However, the Penmen (13-11) answered with a seven-run sixth to rally for the win. Three different players homered for SNHU in the frame, led by a go-ahead three-run blast from Erin Tyrell (Milford, N.H.).

In its final turn at-bat, LIU Post brought the potential tying run to the plate with two outs, but freshman outfielder Abbey Fortin (Langley, British Columbia, Canada) struck out swinging to halt the comeback attempt.

Head Coach Jamie Apicella and the Pioneers return to action Monday (Apr. 10), when they battle East Coast Conference rival Molloy College at 4 p.m. in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
