Moore, Patterson and Rivers Named to All-Met Teams

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The postseason accolades for LIU Post basketball continued on Thursday, as senior Sasha Patterson and sophomore Mikaiya Moore were named to the women's All-Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Team and sophomore Jared River earned a spot on the men's All-Met team as announced by the organization April 19.

Patterson led the Pioneers with a spot on the first team, while Moore and Rivers garnered second-team accolades for their respective teams.

The women's basketball team at LIU Post had a huge bounce back season this year, compiling a 22-8 overall record and an East Coast Conference regular season championship. The season was capped off with an appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament at Stonehill University.

Much of the Pioneer success can be attributed to the outstanding play of the front court behind Patterson and Moore. Patterson, a Brooklyn native, ranked third in the nation in offensive rebounding, while also ranking in the top-15 in double-doubles. For the year, the senior post player scored over 16 points per game while hauling in 10 rebounds per game. To close out the regular season, Patterson put forth one of the best performances of her career, scoring 27 points and hauling in 20 rebounds, including 10 on the offensive glass, to help the Pioneers clinch the outright regular-season championship. She ended the season with another great performance in the NCAA East Region quarterfinal against the University of the Sciences, scoring 21 points and grabbing 13 rebounds for her seventh consecutive double-double.

Moore also had a big season in her second year with the program, capturing second team All-ECC honors after averaging 13 points and five rebounds per game to go with nearly 1.5 assists per contest. During a non-conference matchup with Pace University in November, Moore poured in a career-high 34 points on 14-of-19 shooting. The sophomore added a stretch of 14 consecutive games with double-figure scoring from January 12 through March 3.

On the men's side, Rivers also produced a breakout season for the Pioneers, ranking third in the ECC with 18.5 points per game and 10th with 3.1 assists per contest. Rivers exploded for a career-high 41 points in a 91-88 win against Post University, finishing 15-of-21 from the field and 8-of-12 from beyond the arc. The sophomore guard was especially impressive down the stretch for the Pioneers, averaging 20 points per game in conference play this season, shooting 46 percent from the field.
