BOUT-BY-BOUT RESULTS

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The LIU Post wrestling team returned to the mat at the Kutztown Duals, finishing 1-2 on Friday, Jan. 18 after knocking off No. 25 Millersville University, 31-23.
 
The Pioneers saw their weekend be shortened by Winter Storm Harper. LIU Post was originally scheduled for five matches on the weekend but were forced to have two matches on Saturday be cancelled due to the impending snowstorm which is predicted to dump several inches of snow on Berks County this weekend.
 
Match One: No. 19 LIU Post 13, Minot State University 26
 
LIU Post fell behind by 10 points after two bouts when the Beavers opened the match with a major decision victory at 125 and a pinfall win at 133. Calderone got the Pioneers on the board with a 4-2 decision victory and freshman Chris Gomez followed suit with a 14-4 major decision victory at 149 to bring the Green and Gold within three points (10-7).
 
Minot State bounced back at 157 and 165 with seven points before senior Dan Arkow took down Anthony Raupp with an 11-4 decision victory at 174 to make it 17-10 with three bouts remaining. The Beavers increased their advantage to 10 points when Keegan Berry defeated junior Dan McClure, 5-3, at 184 and eventually clinched the match despite a Pioneer victory by Dan Shafran at 197. Minot State put the final points on the scoreboard with a pinfall win during the heavyweight bout as the Pioneers dipped to 5-8 in dual matches on the season.
 
Match Two: No. 19 LIU Post 31, No. 25 Millersville University 23
 
LIU Post took advantage of three empty bouts to earn 18 points against nationally-ranked Millersville in its second match of the evening. Calderone pinned Alex Jablonski in 2:46 to give the Green and Gold a 12-5 advantage through three bouts. After a forfeit victory at 149, graduate student Ed Ramirez, Jr. earned an 11-2 major decision win against Rob Saum at 165 to take a 17-point lead against the Marauders, 22-5, midway through the match.
 
Millersville garnered 12 points behind two pinfalls during the following two bouts before McClure put the Pioneers back in control with a 5-1 victory against Evan Morrill at 184. A forfeit at 197 secured the victory for the Pioneers as LIU Post held on for a 31-23 final.
 
Match Three: No. 19 LIU Post 6, No. 7 University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown 34
 
The No. 7-ranked Mountain Cats controlled the match from the opening bout in LIU Post's third match of the night. The match featured a top-three bout at 141, as Calderone suffered just his second setback of the season during a 4-0 decision against third-ranked Joey Allesandro. 

The Pioneers earned their only points of the match when Arkow earned six points due to an injury at 174. Overall Pittsburgh took nine of the ten bouts to earn the 34-6 victory. 
 
LIU Post returns to action for a dual with Roger Williams University on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 4:00 p.m. in Bristol, Rhode Island.
