BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The LIU Post wrestling team earned a dominating 29-9 victory in a dual match against American International College on Senior Day inside the Pratt Recreation Center on Sunday, Feb. 10 in the team's final tune-up before the NCAA Regional Championship.

The Green and Gold honored its four members of the Class of 2019 prior to the match, including Logan McGinn, Ed Ramirez, Jr., Dan Arkow, and Joe Calderone.

The match featured shorthanded squads on both sides, with just six bouts being contested. American International took an early lead when Ray Sherwood defeated freshman Tim Nagosky by a 3-2 decision to jump ahead 3-0 as the match opened with the heavyweight bout.

From there, the Pioneers garnered 12 points via forfeit at 125 and 141 with both sides conceding a double forfeit at 133. Freshman Chris Gomez continued the run for LIU Post with a 6-1 decision against Joel Morth at 149 to put the Pioneers ahead 15-3.

Following a second double forfeit at 157, Jojo Gonzalez brought the Yellow Jackets back within striking distance with a pinfall victory 2:28 into the 165 bout with freshman Kenny Cooper. It was the final points of the evening for American International however, as Arkow, junior Dan McClure, and sophomore Mark Malico dominating their bouts. Arkow earned a pin late during the third period against Ahmed Shariff and McClure and Malico added major decision victories for the 29-9 final.

Following the varsity bouts, freshman Mark Parrish grappled with Rafiq Conway in an exhibition bout, falling by a 4-2 decision.

The Pioneers will spend two weeks prepping for the NCAA Championships as the team travels to Erie, Pa. on Saturday, Feb. 23 for the Super Region I Championship hosted by Mercyhurst University.
