141-POUND BRACKET
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Graduate student
Joe Calderone is set to make a run for a national championship at the NCAA Division II Championships on Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9 at the Wolstein Center on the campus of Cleveland State University.
Calderone earned his fourth NCAA Division II Championship qualification in as many attempts when he captured the Super Region I title at the 141-pound weight division in Erie, Pa. two weeks ago. The Huntington Station native earned All-America accolades during his two most recent championship appearances and is looking to become LIU Post's second three-time All-American. Calderone is also looking to become the second overall national champion in the program's history and first NCAA champion, becoming the first grappler since Dick Duffy (1963-NAIA) to capture the national title.
Third-ranked Calderone opens his championship run against ninth-ranked Jason Hanenberg of Western Colorado during Friday's first morning session. Calderone will have a few hours before his second bout during the second night session. During his path to the championship, Calderone could face a Super Region I Championship bout rematch with second-ranked Joey Allesandro of Pitt-Johnstown. Current top-ranked grappler, Brandon Ball (Fort Hays State University) is seeded opposite Calderone in the championship bracket and could set up for a 1 vs. 3 battle in the championship bout.
Live results and up-to-date brackets are available free of charge on www.trackwrestling.com throughout the championship. A live video pass is also available for purchase through Track Wrestling at a price of $14.95 for the event, or $39.99 for all three NCAA championships.
