BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - The LIU Post Department of Athletics honored its student-athletes at its annual Student-Athlete Banquet inside the Tilles Center for Performing Arts on April 24.
During the annual awards ceremony, each of the LIU Post 25 varsity sports, along with the cheerleading and dance teams, honored two student-athletes who demonstrated outstanding performance, perseverance and leadership throughout the season.
Along with the team awards, the department presented eight major awards for community service, pride, performance, and academic achievement throughout the year. The recipients of the awards are listed below:
Make a Difference Award
Women's Lacrosse
From participating in awareness games to running youth clinics for children with special needs to volunteering for Tim Tebow's Night to Shine prom, the 2018-19 women's lacrosse team amassed 822 total hours of community service on the year, for an average of 28 hours per student-athlete.
Most Outstanding Male Athlete
Connor Farrell, Football and Men's Lacrosse
Farrell earned all-conference honors as a linebacker on the football team, and is on pace to shatter Division II men's lacrosse records at the faceoff X this season. Earlier this year he set two NCAA single-game records in faceoffs won and ground balls against No. 1-ranked Merrimack. He was also drafted by the New York Lizards of Major League Lacrosse and Chrome Lacrosse Club of the Premier Lacrosse League.
Most Outstanding Female Athlete
Julia Seader, Softball
Seader currently leads the ECC in batting average, home runs, and runs batted in. This season she tied the LIU Post program record for career doubles and is on pace to shatter the career hits record. This season she is hitting .467 at the plate with 14 home runs, 13 doubles, 43 runs batted in, and 126 total bases. She also has compiled a .526 on-base percentage and has struck out just six times in 152 at-bats.
Male Pioneer Excellence Award
Patrick Williams, Football and Lukas Ostermann, Men's Soccer (Co-Winners)
Williams earned the NE10 Elite 24 award with a 3.96 GPA. A senior captain, he started all 11 games and ranked 6th on the team in tackles. Ostermann was a consensus All-American and also earned Academic All-America accolades this season while ranking second in Division II with 23 goals and 52 points.
Female Pioneer Excellence Award
Rachel Londot, Volleyball and Abbey Fortin, Softball (Co-Winners)
Londot earned Academic All-America accolades and was named the ECC Elite 19 award winner with a 3.98 GPA and also earned first team all-conference recognition. Fortin was a consensus All-American last season and also earned Academic All-America honors with a 3.91 GPA.
Play of the Year
Nazir Streater, Football
Streater's one-handed interception against Shippensburg landed him the No. 2 play on Sportscenter's Top 10 Plays and also took the top spot on ESPN's Week Six College Football Plays of the Week.
Christine Webb Award
Kendall Purdy, Women's Lacrosse
The Christine Webb Award is awarded annually to a deserving student-athlete, who displays the most Post Pride.
Purdy boasts a 3.88 GPA and serves as this year's SAAC president. Last season she was an all-conference defender on the lacrosse field and is a leader on the women's lacrosse team with community service events.
Dr. Roy Ilowit Sportsmanship Award
Karis Fuller, Women's Swimming
The Dr. Roy Ilowit Sportsmanship Award is annually bestowed upon a deserving student-athlete for their achievements in the classroom and on the field, while also representing the spirit of Dr. Ilowit with an outstanding grade-point average and a high level of character on the playing field.
Fuller earned two All-America accolades at this year's NCAA Championship, giving her six All-America honors for her career. She has also been named the most outstanding performer at the Metropolitan Championships and has set several program records during her career.
