No. 10 Men's Basketball Powers Past Queens, 96-79

10th-ranked C.W. Post had five players score in double figures as they rolled to an East Coast Conference opening victory over host Queens College, 96-79, in men's basketball action on Wednesday evening.

The Pioneers improve to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the ECC, while Queens drops to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

The Pioneers began the game with a 15-0 run, and would eventually push their lead to 33-11 at the 16:50 mark in the first half.  Queens College battled back and cut the lead to 10, 34-24, with 1:59 remaining in the half, but a three-pointer by Nick Carter (Huntington Station, N.Y.), and jumper by Kevin Spann (West Babylon, N.Y.) and two free throws by Carter pushed the Pioneers further ahead and gave them a 54-42 lead going into the half.

The early lead proved to be enough for the Pioneers as they used strong second halves by both Kenny Burkes (Suitland, Md.) with 14 points and Jonathan Schmidt (Centereach, N.Y.) with 18 points to roll to victory.  

Schmidt led all players with 23 points, also adding six assists.  Burkes scored 22 points while notching four steals, and Carter was right behind him with 21 points, six assists, and four steals.  Spann added 10 points and a game-high eight assists, while #Roberto Macklin# (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) scored 10 pointsLyndon Daniel (St. George's, Grenada) had a standout defensive game, grabbing 10 rebounds and blocking six shots, while adding eight points.  

Queens was led by Khaleef Allicott with 17 points and Lawrence Young with 16 points, respectively.

CWP shot 50.7 percent from the field (36-of-71) and 40 percent (6-of-15) from behind the arc.  The Knights shot 42 percent (29-of-69) from the field.

The Pioneers continue their ECC play on Saturday as they host St. Thomas Aquinas in a 3:30 p.m. matchup.
