Baseball Shut Out By Adelphi, 3-0

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (May 1, 2008) – Junior pitcher Bobby Lanigan pitched his first complete shutout of the season as Adelphi University shut out C.W. Post, 3-0, in East Coast Conference baseball action Thursday afternoon.
Adelphi improves its overall record to 21-22 and evens its conference record at 12-12. C.W. Post drops its fourth straight and falls to 23-24 overall and 14-10 in the conference.
Sophomore third baseman Chris Weidlein scored all three of the Panthers' runs, including a home run in the second.
The Panthers scored their first run in the top of the second with the help of a home run to left field from Weidlein. Adelphi added its second run in the top of the fourth when sophomore designated hitter Matthew Kenney singled to right field to score Weidlein from third.
The Pioneers threatened in the fourth when junior right fielder
Bruce Testa (Glen Cove, N.Y.) singled through the left side and later advanced on a single to third from senior third baseman
Steve Algarroba (Astoria, N.Y.). Both runners advanced into scoring position on a fielding error by the third baseman. The threat ended when Lanigan was able to get senior first baseman
Tim Sylvester (Farmingdale, N.Y.) to ground out to end the inning.
Adelphi added its third run when right fielder Mike Mongiello singled to right center to score Weidlein, who earlier had doubled to left field.
Weidlein completed the game going 3-for-4 at the plate with one RBi and three runs scored.
Lanigan dialed up the Pioneers with a 10-strikeout performance, while issuing one walk and surrendering six hits against the Pioneers.
Sophomore
Brian Saldana (Deer Park, N.Y.) took the loss for C.W. Post, pitching six and a third innings and allowing three earned runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking two.
Algarroba led C.W. Post with two hits in the game.
C.W. Post will play a conference doubleheader against Molloy College on Saturday, May 3 with the first pitch slated for 12 p.m.
