No. 2 Men's Basketball Cruises Past Molloy, 104-75; Pioneers Win 13th Straight

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Jan. 21, 2009)
– Four players scored in double figures as C.W. Post cruised past Molloy College, 104-75, to claim its 13th straight win Wednesday evening at Quealy Gymnasium in an East Coast Conference men's basketball clash.
 
C.W. Post, who is ranked second in this week's NABC poll, remains perfect at 13-0 overall and has now won seven conference wins this season. Molloy falls to 3-13 overall and 2-5 in conference action.
 
C.W. Post shot .561 (37 of 66) from field goal range and held a 41-24 advantage on the glass. The Pioneers shot a season-best .583 from behind the arc as they drained eight three point field goals in the first half to record 14 in the game. Molloy shot .492 (29 of 59) from field goal range.
 
Senior guard Kevin Spann (West Babylon, N.Y.) led the Pioneers with 22 points, converting 8 of 11 from the floor, including six treys. Senior guard Nick Carter (Huntington Station, N.Y.), who led the visitors with 17 points in the first half, finished the game with 21 points. Senior guard Jonathan Schmidt (Centereach, N.Y.) chipped in 17 points and added seven assists on offense.
 
Molloy scored the game's first basket on a three pointer from junior guard Carl Palmer at 19:04 before the Pioneers answered back with a trey of their own from Spann at 18:55. 
 
The Pioneers converted six three pointers through the first eight minutes of play to boost their lead to 22-15. 
 
C.W. Post's defense held Molloy to a 38 percent shooting percentage in the first half and outscored the Lions in the paint by a 40-32 count.
 
In the second half, the Pioneers build their lead up to as many as 34 points as they scored 19 points off eight Lion turnovers. Schmidt led the offense with 15 points, including seven from the charity stripe.
 
Palmer led Molloy with 17 points while Brian Hutchinson and Girard Fitts each scored 16. 

C.W. Post, who scored 105 points against Mercy and Millersville, last registered three or more 100-plus victories during the 1992-93 season.
 
C.W. Post will return to action Saturday afternoon against Dowling College at 3 p.m.
