Napoli, Hogan Lead No.3 Women's Lacrosse Past Southern Connecticut, 23-3

NEW HAVEN, Ct. (Mar. 17, 2009)
– Eleven different Pioneers found the back of the net Tuesday afternoon, leading C.W. Post past Southern Connecticut State University 23-3 in a non-conference match-up. Seniors  Jaclyn Napoli (West Islip, N.Y.) and Katie Hogan (Farmingdale, N.Y) each tallied six points for the day to help their team earn the win.

C.W. Post improves to 3-1 overall while Southern Connecticut drops to 0-2 overall.

Hogan put the Pioneers on the board first, scoring an unassisted goal just under two minutes into the first half. Napoli followed in suit shortly after, scoring off an assist from Hogan. Hogan scored 45 seconds later to put C.W. Post up 3-0. Teresa Monfredo notched a goal for the Owls, but the effort was not enough to stop the Pioneers. C.W. Post then went on a 13-1 run, closing out the first half 16-2.

Hogan finished the afternoon with five goals and one assist while Napoli netted six goals for the afternoon. Senior attacker Samantha Lyons (Farmingdale, N.Y.) earned herself five points with a total of two goals and three assists, while freshman Ashley Olen (East Islip, N.Y.) added three goals and one assist for C.W. Post.

The Pioneers outshot Southern Connecticut by a 44-8 margin and held a 24-13 advantage in groundballs.

Sophomore keeper Sam Powers (Holbrook, N.Y.) earned the win for C.W. Post with three saves in 37 minutes of play. Marcela Hernandez (Freeport, N.Y.) made one save in net for the Pioneers. Lisa Corso made nine saves while Diana DiGangi added three saves for the Owls.

C.W. Post will take the field as they travel to Severna Park, Md. to take on Belmont Abbey for an 11 a.m. game.
