No. 2 Women's Lacrosse Soars Past Hawks, 19-5

MANCHESTER, N.H. (April 26, 2009)- Senior Jaclyn Napoli (West Islip, N.Y.) tallied three goals and four assists for a total of seven points to lead the Pioneers to a 19-5 win over the St. Anselm Hawks Sunday afternoon. Samantha Lyons (Farmingdale, N.Y.) added three goals and two assists to capture the Pioneers 15th straight win.

C.W. Post improves to an overall record of 15-1, 3-0 in the East Coast Conference, while the Hawks finish their season with an overall record of 5-10, 4-6 in the NE-10.

Lyons scored the first goal of the contest to put the Pioneers on the board less than two minutes into the game, to start a 6-0 scoring streak. Katie Hogan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) connected with Napoli thirty seconds later to give C.W. Post a 2-0 lead.

Napoli added another assist and two goals of her own to give the Pioneers a 6-0 lead ten minutes into the first half. Saint Anselm senior Michaela Rocha broke the momentum for C.W. Post, adding her first goal of the game to bring the down to a five point lead.

Junior attacker Staci Passafiume (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) notched two back to back goals to start C.W. Post on a 7-0 scoring run. Lauren Spagnoletta (West Islip, N.Y.) found the back of the net off a pass from Hogan at the 6:42 mark. Napoli added two more assists and a goal to give the Pioneers a 14-2 lead at the half.

Lyons opened up a scoring frenzy for C.W. Post just forty-five seconds into the second half. Freshman Ashley Olen (East Islip, N.Y.) added her third goal of the game off a feed from teammate Michelle Fucich (Seaford, N.Y.).  Midfielder Kian Lyons (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored her second goal of the season as Fucich threaded a pass through the Hawks' defense to give C.W. Post a 17-2 lead with eighteen minutes left on the clock.

Michaele Rocha scored her second goal of the day for St. Anselm with twelve minutes left in play. Fucich scored a behind-the-back goal with just ten seconds left in the game to bring the final score to 19-5.

Samantha Powers (Holbrook, N.Y.) earned the win for C.W. Post, with eight saves in forty-two minutes of play. Sophomore keeper Marcela Hernandez (Freeport, N.Y.) blocked five shots to end the game in net for the Pioneers. Katherine O'Hara made eight saves for St. Anselm, while Shelia Withey contributed two saves to the effort.

The Pioneers outshot the Hawks 32-30 and held a 14-12 margin in draw controls.

C.W. Post is back in action May 2nd as it honors its seniors in their final regular season home game. The Pioneers are scheduled to host ECC rival Adelphi University at 1 p.m.
