Women's Lacrosse Places Six On IWLCA North Region Teams

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (May 21, 2009) - The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse C oaches Association released its 2010 Division II All-North Region Team on May 20, and five members of the C.W. Post women's lacrosse team received First Team kudos in the release, while one other was named to the second team.  First team selections from the Pioneers include seniors Staci Passafiume (Port Jefferson, N.Y.), Brianne Jackolski (Shirley, N.Y.) and Kim Williams (Long Valley, N.J.), and sophomores Ashley Olen (East Islip, N.Y.) and Chelsea Donaldson (Bay Shore, N.Y.).  Sophomore Lauren Spagnoletta (West Islip, N.Y.)  garnered Second Team recognition.

Passafiume, a senior attacker, leads the Pioneers with 42 assists on the season, also tallying 28 scores.  She's picked up 44ground balls, good for second on the team, and has totaled 70 points, tops on the squad.

Williams, a three-time selection to the IWLCA All-North Region First Team, has again put up standout defensive numbers with a team-high 57ground balls, 49 caused turnovers, and 44 draw controls.  Making the move to midfield this season, Williams has also produced offensively, scoring 24 goals ad adding six assists for 30 points.  

Olen followed up a solid freshman season with a stellar sophomore year, and with 61 goals on the season, she is just six scores shy of breaking Jaclyn Napoli's single-season goals record of 67. Olen also leads the Pioneers with 46 draw controls and has scored a team-high 13 goals off free position attempts.  

Donaldson has been a standout defender for the Pioneers this season, often with the job of containing the opposing team's top scorer, and she has responded with an outstanding season, picking up 28 ground balls and helping C.W. Post to hold opponents to just 6.42 goals per game.  

Spagnoletta enjoyed a breakout sophomore season, scoring 47 goals, good for second on the team.  She also picked up 21 ground balls and caused 25 turnovers, while adding 10 assists and going 6-12 on free position attempts. 

In other Athletic Department news, registration is still open for the C.W. Post Pioneer Sports Academy, a new summer athletic camp for children ages 7 to 17. C.W. Post's NCAA Division II varsity coaches will instruct participants in boys' lacrosse, baseball, football and basketball and girls' lacrosse, softball, basketball and field hockey. Each individual camp will be held over a one-week period, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at a cost of $450. Children will be grouped by age, skill level and experience.
