CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (May 4, 2016) - On Wednesday, the LIU Post men's lacrosse team had 10 of its players named to the All-East Coast Conference ledger, as announced by the league office.
Senior attackman/midfielder
Ryan Slane (North Babylon, N.Y.), senior midfielder
Anthony Berardis (Mahopac, N.Y.) and junior midfielder
Anthony Galeotafiore (Wantagh, N.Y.) represented the Pioneers on the All-ECC First Team.
Slane is presently the second-leading scorer in the ECC with a career-high 62 points, on 38 goals and 24 assists. He has recorded a man-up goal in each of LIU Post's last three contests, including the game-winning tally in a 10-9 overtime win versus Dowling College on Apr. 16.
Berardis has amassed 35 points (19 G, 16 A) in 2016, en route to earning his fourth-consecutive All-ECC nod. Meanwhile, Galeotafiore owns the top face-off winning percentage in the league at .689. Since Mar. 5, he has won 148-of-203 draws for a 72.9 success clip. During the team's current six-game winning streak, Galeotafiore has lost only 29 faceoffs in 122 tries.
The Pioneers occupied six of the 13 spots on the All-ECC Second Team. On the offensive side of the field, senior attackmen
Matty Beccaris (North Babylon, N.Y.) and
Matt Bellando (Miami, Fla.) and graduate midfielder
Jeremy Morgan (Ridge, N.Y.) earned recognition.
Through 13 games, Beccaris ranks eighth in the conference in goals (34) and 10th in points (48). He etched his name into the LIU Post record books last Saturday, when he became the program's all-time leading goal-scorer, surpassing former standout and legendary coach Tom Postel.
Bellando has netted the fourth-most goals in the ECC this season with 38. He has scored multiple goals in 11 of the team's 13 games and had the game-winner in the final minutes of a 10-9 victory against Mercy College on Apr. 23.
In his only year with the Pioneers, Morgan has accumulated 20 goals and 10 assists for 30 points. On Apr. 9, he went off for a season-high four goals, two of which came on the man-up, in a 15-5 upset of then-No. 5 New York Institute of Technology.
Juniors
Shane Sweeney (Hicksville, N.Y.) and
Ryan Stern (Shoreham, N.Y.) and sophomore
Joey Denaro (Oceanside, N.Y.) received All-ECC second-team accolades on defense. They have helped to anchor a unit that places third in the country and leads the league in scoring defense, as LIU Post has limited its opposition to an average of 7.23 goals per game.
Lastly, junior cageminder
Matthew Liantonio (Miller Place, N.Y.) was selected to the All-ECC Third Team. In 11 starts this season, he has compiled an 8-3 record with 77 saves and an 8.29 goals-against average. His 8.29 GAA is third-best amongst conference goaltenders and tied for 10th in Division II.
